Mr. Setliff’s railroad practice includes defense of Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) claims, crossing accidents, trespasser claims and property damage claims. Mr. Setliff also defends railroads against FELA claims by employees allegedly injured as a result of occupational workplace hazards, including hearing loss, repetitive stress and exposure to asbestos, silica, diesel fumes, soaps, solvents and other chemical fumes. Additionally, he is trial counsel to Class I and Class III railroads in casualty claims as well as employment claims arising under the Federal Railroad Safety Act (FRSA). Mr. Setliff is a member of the General Counsel Committee of the American Shortline and Regional Railroad Association, the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel (NARTC) and the Virginia Railroad Association.

Mr. Setliff’s trial practice also includes representation of one of the nation’s largest utility companies, as well as worldwide hotel and resort chains, in commercial litigation matters as well as claims of personal injury and property damage. Mr. Setliff also is national trial counsel for an international fitness chain for personal injury as well as commercial disputes. He also is trial counsel for several national commercial property owners, landlords and management companies handling commercial landlord/tenant issues as well as personal injury and premises liability.

Mr. Mackey graduated Cum Laude with his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. He received his Juris Doctorate from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. While in law school, Mr. Mackey received Honors in Legal Skills II, III & IV for excellence in research, writing, analysis, trial and appellate practice, and client relations, and was a recipient of the Legal Scholars Award. Additionally, Mr. Mackey represented his law school as a member of the William & Mary Moot Court and National Trial Teams, successfully competing in multiple trial and appellate advocacy competitions across the United States. Prior to joining Setliff Law, Mr. Mackey served as a judicial extern for the Honorable LeRoy F. Millette, Jr. of The Supreme Court of Virginia and has worked as extern/intern for a number of government entities including: Transportation Security Administration, Department of Labor, Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

Outside of practicing law, Mr. Mackey enjoys an active lifestyle, engaging in nearly any sport that involves a ball, as well as spending time with his friends and family.

Before joining Setliff Law, Mitchell advised clients on a wide range of corporate issues, including bankruptcy, business development, privacy, intellectual property, and emerging legal issues raised by technology. He advised the General Assembly on matters related to science, technology, privacy, and intellectual property. He also served the Commonwealth as an adjudicator for administrative cases within an executive branch agency and successfully represented clients before regulatory bodies, as well as in state and federal courts, demonstrating his versatility and expertise in both litigation and advisory roles. Mitchell has committed to staying ahead of emerging legal trends through his work on privacy, technology, AI, and intellectual property matters.

Since joining Setliff Law, Mitchell has concentrated on business-related issues, representing clients in breach of contract matters, employment matters, and licensing issues.. He has effectively represented clients before administrative agencies on various licensing issues and has skillfully negotiated and drafted contracts and other business documents. Mitchell has also assisted clients in obtaining trademarks and protecting their trade secrets. His expertise extends to advising clients on emerging and evolving areas such as the use of biometrics, privacy concerns, and the ever-changing employment laws.

Mr. Goldstein is a native of Connecticut but moved to the Richmond area in 1993. Outside of work, he appreciates spending time with his family. He enjoys following his favorite sports teams; reading technology, privacy, policy, science, and science fiction/fantasy books and articles; watching science fiction/fantasy movies and television shows; and relearning to play the piano.

Mr. Streit has previously served as Chair of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys’ (VADA) Coverage Practice section, and he co-chairs Setliff Law’s insurance coverage practice.  In the Fall 2022 edition of the VADA’s quarterly journal, The Journal of Civil Litigation, Mr. Streit published an article addressing when insurers might be able to use extrinsic evidence to challenge the duty to defend titled “Outside the Box: When can an Insurer Rely on Extrinsic Evidence to Contest Coverage Based on the Date of an Occurrence?” He frequently presents seminars for clients and for colleagues on insurance issues, and strives to pass along the knowledge his has gained over a quarter century in his field. As a thought leader in the coverage field, Mr. Streit continues to represent insurers in Virginia, West Virginia, and beyond to assist them in enforcing their contractual and legal rights in a variety of claims.

Mr. Streit has also spent a considerable part of his career defending insureds in a wide range of disputes as insurance defense counsel.  In recent years he has occasionally represented commercial clients directly in complex business litigation in both federal and state courts.  He previously served as part of the trial team that won a defense judgment in a Virginia state court in a multi-million dollar commercial contract case, at the same time winning a $2 million judgment on the defendant’s counterclaims.  That case, DPx Gear, Inc., et al. v. Erik D. Prince, et al. (Loudoun Cir. Ct. No. 83109) (2017), was featured in national news coverage, including in The Washington Post.

Prior to attending law school Mr. Streit pursued advanced degrees in medieval history, passing his doctoral examinations in 1993 before opting to change fields in the face of a negative turn in the academic job market.  He has published journal articles in both law and in medieval history, the latter including a groundbreaking study of the expansion of the English Jewish community in the mid-twelfth century.

Away from the office and the courtroom, Mr. Streit is an avid outdoorsman who can be found afield during the fall and winter and casting a line in local streams and rivers during the spring and summer.  He is also an ardent Bayern Munich fan, and on weekends spends his time tuned into Bundesliga games as often as possible.  He is supported in both work and play by his wife, Edna, son Byron, and dog, Pacquiao.  For the record, he does not have a cat named Mayweather.
