Shannon Kohler is an experienced litigator whose primary law practice focuses on premises liability litigation, personal injury defense, trucking & transportation, and commercial litigation.  Ms. Kohler’s past litigation experience encompasses her many years working as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for both Essex County and the City of Richmond.  As an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, Ms. Kohler handled the prosecution of numerous violent crime cases, including murders, robberies, aggravated assaults, and sexual assaults of both child and adult victims.  She has also tried countless misdemeanors and felonies to the judges and juries of the Commonwealth.  Ms. Kohler now demonstrates the same zealous advocacy for her clients at Setliff Law that she demonstrated for the victims and families of violent crime she served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Prior to starting her career as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney.  Ms. Kohler worked for the Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Services Council in Williamsburg.  In that role, she provided legal, technical and research assistance to Virginia prosecutors on topics relating to violence against women as a Staff Attorney and the agency’s Violence Against Women Resource Prosecutor.  She also collaborated with law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, and other allied professionals on statewide boards and planning teams to discuss best practices and implement unmet statewide training and legislative needs.

Before attending law school, Ms. Kohler worked as a paralegal at a large international law firm, where she predominantly assisted with premises liability litigation for one of the world’s largest chemical companies.

Outside of work, Ms. Kohler enjoys travelling, running, yoga, and spending time with her friends, family, and most importantly, her husband and their sweet and rambunctious toddler.
