Mr. Knode has been practicing law for 15 years and now focuses his practice on insurance defense litigation, with particular emphasis on the trucking and transportation industries. He regularly defends motor carriers, insurers, and logistics companies in claims arising out of accidents, cargo disputes, property damage, and related matters. His work is defined by strategic case management, effective negotiation, and trial-ready advocacy tailored to the unique needs of transportation clients.
Before concentrating on insurance defense, Mr. Knode built a wealth of experience handling residential construction and real estate disputes, consumer protection matters, and related litigation. He has represented both sides of mechanic’s lien claims, litigated fraud and contractor disputes, advised clients before the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, and prosecuted partition actions involving contested real property. This background provides him with a broad perspective on complex litigation and a practical approach to resolving disputes.
Mr. Knode is an Annapolis, Maryland native whose father attended the Naval Academy. Before law school, he worked as a programmer for several internet companies during the “dot-com boom.” He also served in the Marine Corps Reserve during his undergraduate years, gaining experience in the Infantry and learning the value of teamwork, discipline, and the ability to adapt under pressure.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland – University College and his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego. While in law school, he served as editor of the student newspaper The Informer, participated in a Veterans’ Village clinic providing pro bono legal services to homeless veterans, and authored a paper analyzing the federal government’s authority to prosecute U.S. citizens operating offshore internet gambling sites. He also interned with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office of Internal Review, where he evaluated use-of-force incidents and participated in ride-alongs with specialized units, including SWAT and helicopter patrol.
Outside of the office, Mr. Knode is a season ticket holder for the Richmond Kickers, enjoys experimenting as an amateur gourmet cook, and has converted his basement into a personal CrossFit gym.
