Christy Ann Fisher, an associate in the Annapolis, MD office of Setliff Law, has been named as a 2014 Leading Women honoree by The Daily Record newspaper. The paper announced today the names of 46 women, who are 40 years of age or younger, who it considers are the next generation of women leaders in the state.

Nominees for the Leading Women designation were judged on applications that outlined education and career history, examples of mentoring, career-related officer and board memberships in professional, business or trade organizations, volunteer involvement in civic and nonprofit organizations, awards and honors, professional accomplishments and commitment to inspiring change in their organization or the community.

“Those being honored as The Daily Record’s Leading Women are extraordinary. They are juggling tough jobs, family commitments, community service, mentoring, education and a host of other priorities,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record. “They are inspiring change across Maryland and creating ideas, processes and products that will contribute to the success of tomorrow. We are proud to honor them.”

Ms. Fisher is an associate in the Annapolis office of Setliff Law. Her practice includes Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA) and railroad defense work, premises liability, and other general civil ligation matters. Coming from a career working for the judiciary in both the United States and abroad, Ms. Fisher’s broad professional history ensures that her clients will enjoy vigorous advocacy coupled with unique insight into effective litigation strategies.

As a career law clerk to the Honorable John Eldridge of the Maryland Court of Appeals, Ms. Fisher assisted in the legal research and drafting of more than fifty opinions for Maryland’s highest court, ranging from issues related to criminal trial procedure to matters of constitutional importance. She also served as Court Counsel to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Palau, an independent Micronesian country which relies on American legal principles. As Court Counsel, she assisted in negotiating contracts, revising the court’s rules of appellate procedure, and representing the judiciary to other branches of government, in addition to drafting opinions for the court and responding to all appellate motions. Ms. Fisher also served as a summer associate in the Office of General Counsel at the Asian Development Bank in Manila, Philippines. She also worked as assistant to the international health attaché at the U.S. Mission to the U.N. in Geneva, Switzerland, where she helped represent U.S. interests before U.N. organizations. Prior to law school, Ms. Fisher spent two years teaching English in Japan, hosted by the Japanese government, as participant in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program.

Ms. Fisher earned her Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was honored as a Global Law Scholar. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, graduating summa cum laude as a first honor graduate. Ms. Fisher completed Harvard Law School’s intensive three-week Program on Negotiation and is a trained mediator. She also served on the editorial staff of the Fletcher Forum of World Affairs and the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law. In her free time, Christy enjoys participating in trivia nights, salsa dancing, and practicing her Japanese and French language skills.
