Today's Partner Spotlight: Mitchell Goldstein

Mitchell joined Setliff Law in 2022. He has more than 28 years of experience in business law, and a career dedicated to providing strategic legal counsel and advocating for clients in various business-related matters. .

Since joining the firm, Mitchell has concentrated on business-related issues, representing clients in breach of contract matters, employment matters, and licensing issues. His expertise extends to advising clients on emerging and evolving areas such as the use of biometrics, privacy concerns, and the ever-changing employment laws.

What attracted you to the legal field?

I was always fascinated with arguing for what I thought was right and standing up for those who were wronged. Being a lawyer seemed like a natural fit. I think watching Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird and Mr. Nicholas Collicelli and Gary Schark, a couple of teachers from Hamden Middle School and Hamden High School, had something to do with it as well.

What's the most rewarding part about your work at Setliff Law?

I love arguing for clients, especially when I can get the case resolved efficiently whether through settlement or litigation. The feeling when a judge rules in my favor doesn’t hurt either. I also enjoy working with experts and learning how to put the pieces of a successful argument together.

What are the most substantial challenges ahead in your particular areas of law?

A major challenge is the growing use of AI in legal work. Inaccurate or biased outputs can influence strategy, threaten confidentiality, and raise ethical concerns over verifying and owning AI-generated content.

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not working?

I enjoy learning about anything and everything and exploring different places.

What is your favorite movie or tv show?

That’s easy, I love The Princess Bride, especially the sword fighting scene between the Dread Pirate Roberts and Inigo Montoya, and the insight from other cultures of Star Trek.

What is one thing people don't know about you?

I have been a volunteer with my local Community Emergency Response Team since 2011 and taught the basic course since 2018. I also have an interest in the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence and robotics and served as a referee for the FIRST Robotics Competition for about five years and a referee and later head referee for FIRST Lego League for more than ten years.
